The saber (Dao) was introduced in China later than the straight sword (Jian). The Dao is a single-edged sword with a curved blade. The "Marshall of all weapons", since was mostly used by military soldiers. The saber is also linked to the "fierce of the tiger" because of its fast and vigorous techniques.

The sword is for fast strikes. In China, the training to learn the sword was very time-consuming and complex. Those who mastered the sword were considered masters. For a good sword technique, you need tranquillity in the heart, peace of mind, purity of spirit, precise footwork, and wrist control.

The miaodao is a long double bladed sword designed for powerful cutting.

It was used by Chinese troops during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Schools of Pigua and Xinyi train with Miao Dao.

The Miao dao uses movements of sword, saber, and spear and can be handled with one or both hands.
